Interview Tips
1. Learn about us

Look at our mission statement, read through our job descriptions thoroughly, and do some research about community we are located in. This will help you understand what a good fit for a position at VAMA looks like, and you can assess if your goals and strengths accord with ours.

2. Practice behavioral-based interviewing.

We credit this interview tip to Interlochen Center for the Arts. Here is what they have to say about this interviewing technique.

"Behavioral-based interviewing is rooted in the idea that past behavior will predict future behavior. During the interview, [the interviewer] will ask open-ended questions such as “Give me an example of” or “Describe a situation when.” The interviewer will assess your responses based on your ability to provide:

Relevant experience that answers the question
Information that details the specific actions you took
Descriptions of the outcomes of your actions."

3. Be inquisitive.

Come with a background on who we are and what we stand for, but also show up eager to learn more. Being ready with questions is an important way in which you can help us learn about what matters to you when selecting an employer. There are numerous paths that a talented music educator could embark upon, and it is our first priority to make VAMA a place where people want to work.

Work in a state-of-the-art teaching facility.
